WORD WEDNESDAY
THE CHARLOTTE OSEI SYNDROME
Does a maniacal laugh and goes back on track.
Actually it is about one-ism. It is a word I want to believe I just coined but after running a quick google search I find that I am mistaken.
So what is one-ism in Rony's world? Rony's theory of one-ism states that yes indeed we are different but we are one.
So why am I being rant-y this evening?
I answer this question in a typical Ghanaian fashion; that is with another question, or more questions in my case.
HINT: You are the one who can best answer the following questions.
1. Can a woman ever be president in Ghana?
2. Why is this so?
3. Are female leaders treated differently from male leaders?
Truth is, it is difficult to be a woman of integrity in a society such as ours. Soon people will start to give you names, people will be annoyed with you for no particular reason and then they will start looking out for certain syndromes like pride and disrespect in every walk and talk.
Have we ever stopped to wonder why some women have to make the extra effort to assert their leadership position over other people? They try their best to let people know who the boss is. Why does a woman need to be extra tough to be a leader?
Because we lack the basic concept of one-ism. We are not the same, but one sex is not any less competent than another. We are different but we are one.
If we will be honest with ourselves as a society, we will realize that Charlotte Osei is being truly persecuted for being a strong woman. Strong women are a threat to weak men and women. If we can just drop the act and allow them do their thing, they will also contribute their quota to making this nation great.
Some times I wonder how backward society is because we are just including women in activities that also matter. We like being mothers but we also like inventing things and making things work. If you'll let us, we will show you.
